Eleven-year-old Kevin loved Halloween, but one house stood out—Mrs. Kimbly’s. Her home was dark and devoid of decorations, which made him worry. Remembering her loneliness, Kevin decided to help her decorate.
He knocked on her door, but she rudely declined his offer. Undeterred, he gathered his own decorations and set up on her porch. When Mrs. Kimbly found him, she was furious and crushed his favorite carved pumpkin, leaving Kevin heartbroken.
That night, while trick-or-treating, he couldn’t shake thoughts of her empty house. He returned to her porch with candy, wanting to protect it from pranksters.
When Mrs. Kimbly finally opened the door, she appeared softer. They talked, and she admitted Halloween reminded her of her loneliness. Kevin encouraged her to join in the festivities, offering to carve a new pumpkin together.
Her eyes lit up with emotion as she realized the warmth of connection. For the first time in years, Mrs. Kimbly felt the joy of Halloween, thanks to Kevin’s kindness.
