Kayla Unbehaun, Who Vanished at 9, Was Found after Dad Prayed Every Day for 6 Years to Find Her Alive

Heather Unbehaun, who had been on the run for six years after allegedly abducting her daughter from a suburb in Illinois, has finally surrendered, bringing an end to a widely-followed case. She is currently being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center in Illinois, facing child abduction charges with no option for bail.

Just days before her surrender, her daughter, Kayla Unbehaun, was safely located in North Carolina and reunited with her custodial father, Ryan Iserka. Heather had initially been arrested in North Carolina under a fugitive warrant issued by Illinois for charges of kidnapping and abduction. After being detained on a $250,000 bond, she was released upon posting bail, according to Samantha Booth, a spokesperson for the Asheville Police Department.

Kayla had been missing since July 4, 2017, after Heather took her following a parade in South Elgin, Illinois. Heather had informed Ryan that they were going on a camping trip, but neither returned. Soon after, a felony warrant was issued for Heather’s arrest.

A significant break in the case occurred when a viewer in Asheville recognized Kayla from an episode of Netflix’s *Unsolved Mysteries* and alerted the authorities.

After being reunited with his daughter, Ryan Iserka expressed heartfelt thanks to law enforcement and those who had supported him throughout the search. Heather Unbehaun is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday at the Kane County Judicial Center.
