This small child came directly from the streets to the shelter.” Katie stated, Cathy Buckman, a kitten rescuer from Sanford, North Carolina, was looking for a couple of newborns at a local cat shelter when she heard wailing from one of the cages.

When she turned to look at the source of the noise, she noticed a little blind kitten urgently attempting to catch her attention.” I came for two other kittens, but I couldn’t leave him wailing plaintively.”

The cat meowed even louder as soon as the woman arrived, but it didn’t seem like it. She rushed to the veterinarian facility with all three kittens.

He was tired, scared and unresponsive to anything but food.”

Katie took him home and wrapped him in her best heated blanket. Her dog Burt came to support the guest and kept him company from the very beginning.

“He was radically different the next day.” I started licking my face and toying with some toys… Katy describes him as “a lively, friendly, and silly cat.”

Microphthalmia, a congenital disease characterized by unusually tiny eyes, has rendered the newborn absolutely blind. However, the kitten does not appear to be affected by the condition.

Cathy sought assistance from the Odd Cat Sanctuary in Salem, Massachusetts, knowing that he would require particular care and that his house would need to be adequately equipped to deal with any potential complications.

Tara Kay, the organization’s founder, was ready to embrace the blind youngster with open arms. “We provide assistance to ‘problem’ kittens and cats who are frequently ignored.”

Melvin was his name.

“He’s the ideal pet.” He enjoys eating and playing, and as soon as you take him up, he begins purring, explains Tara. “He yells loudly to attract attention, but as soon as he does, he stops.”

Melvin was underweight when he arrived at the shelter. He miraculously became all thicker in a few days, under the care of new guardians, and now flaunts a tiny belly.
